EA’s John Riccitiello has a bit of advice for the anxious investors, analysts, and fanboys who eagerly await the monthly NPD numbers: “There’s an entire other world of download, online, all the things that are going on that doesn’t really show up in the surveys and I think that’s the future.” NPD figures only track retail sales, a market that has been challenged by the downturn in the global economy. Having just arrived home from a quick trip to the hardware store, I was pleasantly surprised to see a large, unmarked, cardboard box sitting on my front steps. This isn’t an uncommon event, since I am constantly checking out cool products and projects for the Maker Shed, however this box was a bit larger than normal.

Oh wow, it’s the CupCake CNC kit from MakerBot Industries! I’d ordered it weeks earlier and had completely forgotten about it. (The truth is out: I have anSource: MAKE: Blog RSS Feed

Announced two months ago as the flagship of the new Xseries family, the Nokia X6 is ready to hit the market and it looks like it will be available in the UK starting November 12.

Expansys lists the X6 as coming on this date, for no less than 529.99 GBP ($878). Of course, the phone’s price at launch will probably be closer to the price initially announced by Nokia: about €450 (405 GBP).

I missed the first episode of the V last night and forgot to DVR it. “No big deal,” I thought, “I’ll catch it on Hulu tomorrow.”

Unh-unh. No such luck, my friend. V is not available on either Hulu or ABC.com today. The pilot is, however, available for free on electronic sell-through sites Amazon VOD and iTunes (hat tip to TV by the Numbers).

Instead of the full episode, ABC.com greeted me with a survey that asked a bunch of questions relating to online video andSource: NewTeeVee RSS Feed

Until now, the Apple Stores have used Windows CE-based handheld computers to check out your purchases. The convenience of not having to queue at a counter to pay meant that Steve Jobs has doubtless spent the last few years squirming that his company relied on a Microsoft product. Apple store employees weren’t happy either. According to Apple Insider, “the system has drawn complaints from employees about software crashes, sluggish operation and the need to frequently reboot.”

Twitter’s Trending Topics is a great way to see what’s buzzing, what’s going one and what’s happening in the world. Often, big stoies are made publicaly aware on Twitter trends before they hit mainstream news. Several times I’ve watched BBC World News when the presenter used Twitter trends as a source.

Now Digg are launching a new trends experiment which will follow in the footsteps of Twitter. However it’s not just a carbon copy.

Physicist Axel Mellinger spent nearly two years traveling 26,000 miles across South Africa, Texas and Michigan. What does he have to show for it? Well, he’s cobbled together a stunning 648 megapixel panorama of the Milky Way as seen from Earth, using 3,000 individual photographs. The Central Michigan University professor wants to make the image available for planetariums, as it’s large enough to serve educational purposes. It even shows stars that are 1,000 times too faint to be seen by theSource: DVICE RSS Feed

We first heard about the XM SkyDock back in August when it was unveiled. The device was pegged at the time to have a launch date “this fall.” Since it’s already cold in many parts of the country and the leaves are falling, fall is officially here.

Sirius XM has announced that the XM SkyDock is now available to purchase across the country. The device is available to purchase online at the Apple Store and in retail outlets like Best Buy, Radio Shack, and other places. SubscribersSource: SlashGear RSS Feed
